PASSING ON THE INTERSTATE TODAY AND ENGINE WENT TO IDLE. PULLED OVER AND THROTTLE LINKAGE ROD SNAPPED IN MIDDLE WHERE THREADS END BETWEEN THE TWO LOCK NUTS. ANYONE HAVE A SIMILAR PROBLEM . ANY SERVICE BULLETINS OR PART NUMBERS. FOUND A PIECE OF WIRE AND SNAP TIED IT TOGETHER TO GET HOME. THANKS RJ

Searching for the tsb's , it looks like the Throttle cable tsb was for pre 97. The only thing I have read about is the fraying cable.

I'm not sure where the cut off is for the recall. It may be by production date or something like that. A lot of stuff in the linkage in addition to the cable gets replaced as part of the recall. Breaking right there seems like an odd thing to happen. Is the pump lever hard to move? Maybe the rod just got old, but there are a lot of them running around without breaking. You might check to see if the two screws that fasten the linkage lever to the pump lever are tight. If they are loose there may have been a bind. 8mm wrench fits the screws.

RJ2,

I had the exact same problem with my truck. I welded the linkage back together. I don't trust the monkeys at the shop to touch anything on my truck.

My throttle rod also broke while towing my 5th wheel, luckily stoped in front of a small sawmill, the proprieter welded it back together for me and I was on my way. Replaced with a new one when I got back home. I wondered if someone had overtightened the locknuts and twisted the threads?

Since I replaced my truck gaines speed quickly when cruise is on?

Should look up in service manual proper sequence for adjusting the rod.

I am at a loss now. That threaded rod is a kick down or something. I remember now ,out on the road when I patched it together , the wire cable was off also. I have the new rod and would like to know what it does and the adjustment procedure . I need to get that manual. Thanks rj

Got the new rod on , same deal. I am going to sister it up with something , so it does not happen again. I think everybody should carry the piece of slit fuel line with clamps. For a piece that breaks so easily, you would think dodge would stock or even recall them for a beefed up version.
