On top of the pump my linkage has to move a bit before it affects RPM. Noticed that it is "loaded" against another part of the linkage, is this normal or do I need to adjust something here so I get an RPM change as soon as I move the go go pedal?? Make sense?

If you are talking about the breakover spring that the linkage sits in then it is normal, it should be adjusted to the center of the two spring ends when at idle. The spring keeps tension off the internal linkage of the pump.

O. K. , Thanks, makes sense! IIRC , my first 93 had an immediate effect on RPM's, maybe that one was out of whack.

I think the one you have now is wrong. When you step on it, it should go. The break over spring should hold both pieces together until the shaft stops. There should be a square pin(post) and a round one, they should move together with a piece of spring on each side of them. The spring breaking is common, they wear out on the posts. You may need to take slack out of the linkage if the spring is ok.

I agree with Pete, you shouldnt have to move it very far to get throttle response. I'd say if you move the throttle rod more than 1/8" before the throttle shaft rotates, you need to take out some slack. You do want SOME slack, just not very much, as it will affect your WOT operation.

I'll try to take a closer peek at it tomorrow, but I do think I was having to move the rod about 1/4" before RPM's change. Should check for WOT too while I'm at it.

FSM shows . 020 feeler gauge between throttle stop and linkage that rest on it if I remember correctly. Not much, 10mm on the jam nut, 8mm on the rod ends and I use a key fob crescent for the rod.

i can't seem to see what ur ur problem is (proboly me lol) but if there is any play in any of the connections, then they need to get replaced. play in shaft is no good. it gets bad like mine did, u push the pedal down, u get reponse but then it slips and ur head gets jerked to the steering wheel. . no cool, i only hit it twice then i replaced the worn conections.

other words... . play is no good. it should be tight

I had to get replacement ball ends for mine as they were worn out. Found one for a 97 (new, they are not threaded the same as our first gens) and made my own rod with adj nuts. Now its tight ( after replacing the spring and welding up the post the spring rides on). There is very little movement before the throttle response now.
