Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) EGR block off plate

Started having a problem with my truck in the last week or so, the pedal goes dead, the truck is still running but there is no throttle for about 5-10 seconds. After that the check engine light comes on and the truck runs just fine. The check engine light eventually goes out but this will happen about once or twice a week.

I took the truck to the local Dodge dealer, they ran a test with their computer and said the Throttle Position Sensor was bad. The quote to replace the sensor was $454. 00 for the part and 2 hours labor for a total of approx. $600. 00. Has anyone else had this problem and is the going price for this repair? Is this something I can replace myself or am I better off letting the dealer do the repair?

Any help would be appreciated!!

I had that problem with my APPS (24 valve TPS). Pedal went dead and I had to reset it but it died sometimes two times per trip. Also, my idle was up to almost 1000 rpm compared to the normal 825 or 850 rpm.

That is about the going price and it is a dealer only part if it is the APPS ( I think you can get the TPS at NAPA). You can change it yourself and it only takes about 10 minutes. I just put a new one on mine this week for about $400 from the dealer parts counter. It definately isn't worth $200 installation!
