I have a '92 Dodge Ram250. About every ten to sixteen thousand miles the throttle position sensor goes out. The truck seems to go into a free wheel mode at fifty miles an hour. My dealer changes the throttle sensor and the truck works fine. The dealer can't tell me why the sensor keeps going out. I have changed it out the last four times myself. The part now cost over two hundred dollars. If anyone can give me any ideas I thankyou very much.

Go to Cummins to get the part. When I checked with Dodge to get mine, it was $235 plus a wiring harness. I got mine from Cummins for $138 and change, and that was shipped to my door. Hope that helps. Be sure to have your CPL when you call them.

Cummins is the way to go

I ordered mine from Northwest Cummins, if I recall. It was a LOT cheaper and they shipped it to my door. 15 minutes of my time putting it together and it made a whole world of difference.

Since you've gone through so many I wonder if the thing is being 'cooked'. Could there be voltage surges going to it??? I don't know how myself, but your 'wear-out rate' seems to be nasty.

Also, since you've done this more than once, why not try opening one up and re & re'ing it. One or two on this site have done just that and they work ok afterward.

Apparently you need a dremel tool and work the center portion free, remove the 'lid' and spray elec. contact cleaner in, then use a good dielectric grease and re epoxy the lid on. Thats the readers digest version of what I remeber reading.

FWIW.
