I have had multiple failures in just over 100k miles of a throttle position sensor. Guys, I'm posting a question for a fellow Rammer I met over at the GM site. If you can help him in any way it would be greatly appreciated.

His original post was: "The truck is a 91 intercooled Cummins used mostly for towing a fifthwheel with gross weight around 17,000lbs. The part number is 04746966 and I am hoping some one can shed some light on this, is it commen or is there something else that is wrong causing this problem? The dealer always has it in stock and it costs about $160. 00 so I am wondering if it is a commen problem. Any help is appreciated. "

Thank you.

Ron

I'm on my third sensor in just over 156,000 miles and i hav'nt found a cure yet short of a manual trans conversion ... ... RD

There was a guy that was selling what I believe was rebuilt TPS, I don,t recall his name right now, but I'm sure someone will. Also my son had some luck taking the switch apart and cleaning it with contact cleaner. He said it worked,or at least the shifting of the transmission improved. Good luck.

preleeguys' son is on the right track except I don't think it's nessary to take it apart. I squirt mine down with contact cleaner at every other oil change,it's still stock after 115000 miles.
