Howdy, I have a 2001 dodge 2500 turbo with a automatic, all stock... 67,000 miles... just lately it is starting out in 2nd or 3rd gear. not all the time, just every once in a while... . it shifts fine... ... pulls fine... just starts out in a higher gear than it should... . this happens only when I come to a stop light or stop sign. . may do it for a hour or so, then maybe not for days... I pull the shifter down to low and it works just fine when this happens... could this be a throttle position sensor. . or shift down cable... will this ruin the trans if I dont get on it soon?.

thanks.

Dennis, my truck was doing the exact same thing and it was the Governer Pressure Sensor inside the transmission that was the problem. About $70 (dealer item) and about 1 hour of time and it was fixed. Hope this helps.
