Just retuned from a trip to Florida.

My throttle snaped on the frorida turnpike.

I ducted taped a pen to the broken rod and made it

to the plaza area.

?????? Has any one had this problem of the rod braking?

Is this a recall part?

Maybe you should go to the user cp (see button above) and create a signature so we know what sort of beast you are herding around. There is a throttle cable and linkage recall for some years that replaces the whole throttle linkage mess. Check with a dealer to see if it applies to your truck. If it does you can get the whole thing fixed for free.

Thanks guys. I have an appointment monday with the

dealer , armed with this information.

I will keep you posted on the outcome.

Jim,

If it turns out to be a crankshaft seal leak and the gear case is ok you might as well block the KDP while you are at it. You have to pull the gear case cover off to do that. If you would like the blow by blow info about getting in there and blocking the KDP e-mail me at: -- email address removed --

Just posted my experience with the throttle rod on the other current post. The tough part of mine was staying clean and fixing it in a suit. My friend with me could not believe how clean the engine compartment was.

Throttle rod follow up

Picked up ' Mr pitiful' from my dodge dealer .

No charge to replace the throttle cable and rod.

It was covered under the recall.

Thanks for all the feed back.

P/S They found a problem with the Fuel shut off solenoid. I will post a thread about this.

I've had three of them break, two while it was under warranty and one at about 102k. No recalls on the 97. The second one broke just south of Alamagordo, NM, I strung wire between the two ball sockets and drove it to Tucson. Az (the cruise control worked too). After it was replaced I wrapped . 042 inch steel wire from end to end and around the ball sockets so that when it broke again I would be able to continue driving. Good thing too, cuz when it broke I was on a Ca. freeway during rush hour. The parts dealer in Red Bluff said there must be something out of adjustment... ..... duh. Only problem is two different mechanics previously couldn't explain why it broke. So I adjusted the new one to the same length as the broken one, snapped it on and went on down the road. I'll be looking for the cure.
