I am trying to adjust the TV cable to get the 3-4 shift to shift. At the begining of the day the 3-4 shift does not happen. The 1-2, 2-3, 4-OD shifts fine. After a little warmup of the fluid (125* hot line) there is a little "flare" after the 2-3 shift and as I accelerate another 5 mph or so I might get the 3-4 shift. After the transmission is warmed up (150* hot line) I will get the little flare and generally get the 3-4 shift.

I have been told the TV cable is not adjusted correctly.

I know about the little clip and how to get it off (yep I'm dangerous, a little knowledge is a dangerous thing :p ).

I have found out that if the cable is too loose it will not shift at all (ask me how I know  ).

Then I pulled into a parking lot and slightly (1/16") tightened the tv cable and now have very soft shifts but they do happen.

If I tighten the tv a tiny bit (1/16") more will the shifts get a little firmer?

I have read the SM procedure. Takes 2 people.

Will the hunt and peck process work eventually as long as I am carefull and use 1/16" or 1/32" increments?

FYI- I did find that regardless of what you think you have adjusted it to be, once you actually put it in drive and see if it shifts better or worse is the only way to really know that the transmission lever and the TPS lever are actually working together toward the goal of reasonable shifts - not soft, not slam jerk, but something in between

The "hunt and peck" method is how I adjust mine and it works well. I would worry about the flare that you get when it makes the 3 to OD shift. There is a overrun clutch that takes the power till the OD is locked and overruns the third gear. I had trouble with mine pulling a travel trailer and thought that I would not get it home. I put in a trans go kit which did not help the overrun until (out of desperation) I blocked out the accumulator for the OD shift. It is real firm on that shift now without any flare at all. Adjusting the bands and installing the stronger link helped also. It is not a bad job to do and is cost effective.

Bob I have the same issue. But it is worse with the smarty. I posted the question a while ago about the 3-4 or OD shift and found that the tv cable does nothing for that shift. It is controlled by the pcm. I tried to adjust until blue in the face all lower shifts were affected but not the 3-4. that is when I started looking for more info also. Hope this helps.

If I take my smarty out of the mix it shifts rather normal but with the smarty on it gets worse the higher the sw# gets. shifts 1-3 are normal but the 3-4 drives me nuts. I just kick OD off until I get to 55 mph and then turn OD on that is what works for most here anymore until Marco gets a better program for us. Fishin guide has a thread and is testing a new program now for this. Waiting to see how his test goes.

Ok, which shift the 3-4 or the 4-OD? What shift (or shifts) does the TV cable control? I guess we need to start with that knowledge first.

I'll go to the DTT website and start asking questions.

Sorry for the confusion. ;)

The 3-4 or 3-OD are the same 4th and OD are the same gear. Then torque converter lockup occurs which feels like another gear. PCM controls lockup and if I remember right the 3-4(OD) shift also. TV cable adjusts 1-2 and 2-3 shifts.

I have a little rheostat box on my DTT by the PCM that adjust ???? I had forgotten about it until I put in the DTT spike suppressor this past weekend. I'll call DTT and find out what it does and why. PCM is electrical, box is electrical hooked tp PCM, for what? I bet something to do with the PCM signals from / to the DTT transmission

We can get some ideas somewhere. There is a DTT installer I call in Miami for help and I might take a ride down there and ask questions.
