The noise I hear is like the throw out bearing. When the clutch is depressed the noise disappears, but when released you hear the noise.

What do you think?

Throwout bearings almost never make noise clutch out. When its pushed in its loaded and will howl if bad. Trannys make noise clutch out.

On my truck when in neutral & the clutch out I can move the shifter against one of the shift gates and the noise disappears! Leads me to believe the problem is in the trans and not the clutch assembly:confused: Members what do you think? Goes to the dealer first thing Monday, hardly wait to hear what they have to say!

If it is the same noise that the others are hearing then the noise is normal. It does tend to go away or diminish as you put miles on the transmission. A couple of people have had transmissions replaced under warrantee, (one had three) and the replacments all made the same noice. I honestly don't notice mine anymore after 3000 miles. Just make sure the fluid level is within specs.

Casey and DP are right.

Just have your dealer note it in the vehicle record.

Drive it awhile and observe.

Obviously if it worsens take action.

There is some thought this is play or binding between the transmission mainshaft splines and the clutch disc splines setting up a vibration which transduces as a sound a lot like a bad mainshaft or countershaft bearing in the transmission.

That's why when you move the shifter against a syncro pack, you put enough pressure on the mainshaft to kill the rattle the mainshaft is making in the disc splines.

So far on the trucks we know of, when removed, the transmission bearings all check out OK. In the three transmission change deal, the final fix was replacing the clutch disc and plate.

Alot of work to do if it will quiet down by 3000 or even 10,000 miles.

This is why the best plan at the moment seems to be wait and listen.

You know, it's funny that this didn't occur on the '02's and older. Thinking about it, maybe it did, but the interior noise of the new trucks is so much less it can now finally be heard. The 6spd in my '01 was a solid unit. . especially after about 15k miles, it really started shifting like butter. I wouldn't get to worked up just yet... .
