Yesterday my truck threw off my serp. belt after I drove it 2-3miles in heavy snow (-5F, with 30mph wind). After my volt meter went to 0, I stopped and looked things over. The belt was off and both the idler pulley and a/c pulley were plum full off ice. I drove the truck to my shop (stopping a few times to let it cool down). Examining the belt, I noticed one edge had some wear and a few strings sticking out of it. I think ice was built up on the a/c pulley previously and was wearing into one edge of the belt. I melted the ice off of all the pulleys with a propane torch, no noticeable wear/abnormalities on any of the pulleys. I put the original belt back on and it has worked fine so far (150mi).

I am wondering if anyone else has had this happen or has any input on what might have occurred. I checked the idler pulley for play and the arm, everything seems tight.

As for the AFE Stage 2 intake

I drive on a lot of gravel roads (40-50 mi daily) and this filter is severely dirty after 4-5K. Yesterday I cleaned snow out of it 2-3 times. After 5mi of snow drifts, it is so full of snow, that I lose nearly all power and have to clean it. Is there anyway to make these things more managable (draw air from somewhere else? a pre-cleaner of some sort?). I really like the power and fuel mileage I've got out of this filter, but I would like an easier way to manage it. It's a royal PIA to clean so often.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Matt

Never seen temperatures as low as yours so I have no problem with ice buildup or snow going into my filter. AFE does sell a prefilter for their air filters and you might want to try a tarp of sorts that you could restrict the amount of cold air/snow entering through the grill, kind of like what the big rigs use. As for cleaning the AFE filter, I have two allowing me to swap the filters and still be up and running. I can then spend more time cleaning the filter properly and allowing it to dry.

I shredded a belt this summer due to the six bolt's that hold the fan pulley on, all came out for some freak reason. Maybe one more thing to check!
