Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) tick felt through clutch pedal?

My truck is now producing an intermittent tick. It's only noticable when at idle though the clutch pedal. No audible sound is present. The wife has noticed it over the last two weeks. I finally felt it today. The tick feels very rythmic. Truck has 166,000 miles. I'm sure it's the stock clutch. Engagement of 2nd to 3rd has never been as smooth as I'd like if that makes a difference. Any opinions? Is this another of DC's little quirks?

It has always been my opinion about these "ticks" felt through the clutch pedal that it was the clutch release bearing (throwout bearing). I have had clutches in trucks that have had these that lasted for years without getting any worse, however you should be aware that it could get worse (sieze or gall) at any time. I had a old Chev that siezed up after it had gone for years just "ticking"

Just read on the other site about someone removing trans to fix some sort of tick (same?) & discovering problem was with starter instead.

I would suspect the throwout bearing as well. Like NScott said it may last a lot longer, but it may not. Be aware. Does the tick get faster if you rev up the engine?

The next time I feel the tick I'll check for increase in tempo. The problem is very intermitent.
