So, earlier this week, I noticed a ticking noise when my engine is running. It almost sounds like the noise you'd get on the old chevy big blocks when they fired up cold. I took my serpentine belt off for s&g's and started the engine. Still there. The ticking noise is there, regardless if I'm driving or idling in neutral, and increases with engine rpm. At 68,000miles, I couldn't imagine the valve lash being out of adjustment, but I'm pulling my hair out trying to figure this out!#@$%!
Does anybody know the specs for valve lash on these engines? I know you have to check it cold, which wont be a problem, it's 28 degrees here right now.
It just started making the noise. Truck ran flawlessly when I bought it back in June and drove it from Springfield, Missouri, Back to Alaska. I'm going on a long road trip up north in 2 weeks for a moose hunt, and want to figure this out before I leave. I don't want it turning into something major on the side of the road, in the middle of nowhere, in the Yukon.
Help???
Thanks, Kevin
