Heading to Quartzsite, AZ and just before we left in December I got a recall notice for the tie rod but could not do anything before 1/6/14 so figured since we would be in Quartzsite for awhile I would get it taken care of in the area. Looking for recommendations.

Do a search on this forum there is another post with pics. I had the inspection done Wednesday. 3 minutes = my 06 in sig was fine, has the stud type shock absorber in the old stye tie rod. The service writer indicated he understood over time that Dodge may recall all 03 to 07 to be upfitted for the 08 + style steering with new parts, but this was his opinion.

In discussing this with the service manager when scheduling an appointment he asked if I knew what style damper I had on the front linkage? I stated that this was the steering damper with the stud like the 03-07 trucks have. He stated they would look but I was probably OK. My 08 was built in Sept 07 and bought in Nov 07 and I never had the update done to the steering suspension that came out the last time on recall. So maybe another recall will be coming again to change this one more time who knows.

I received a recall notice in the mail today for my '07 (Oct. '06 build). I never had the update done the first time they sent the notice out. If I am understanding all this correctly, mine should be OK as yours was correct?

This is what the service writer said over the phone that this should be OK and will not take a long time for inspection. So I will find out for sure on Wednesday the 22 of Jan when I take the truck in for inspection. I will post either way if the suspension needs to be fixed or not.

Thanks, I'll get mine scheduled sometime in February. I have to get the 2010 1/2 scheduled for an unrelated recall (something on the rear axle) also.

Update on the recall for N62 steering tie rod for my 08.

Front end was inspected today and I do not need to have the LH tie rod repaired. As I stated in the above post I still have the 03-07 Style steering linkage on my truck even though it is a 08 truck. The truck was built in Sept 07 and purchased in Nov 07; one of the first built 08 trucks from Ram.

Went in today re' the recall notice. Service writer walked out to the truck, looked through the wheel well and pointed out that I still had the original damper on the tie rod. She said the replacement damper in the recall had U-Bolt type clamps that pointed up. She signed off the notice and took it with her. In 10 minutes, I was on my way.

I bet I am very safe in saying his opinion is incorrect. The old style linkage has no safety issue. It will wear out but that will not dictate a recall

Bob4x4 - I agree with your assessment on the writers opinion..... 75K miles and it is still tight, and aligned. When the parts start to wear I will upgrade the track bar and tie rods. Until then - just driving it!

My dealer told me that if I installed the front end upgrade that I will be needing parts for repair work. I asked if they had parts in stock for me to make the 65 mile drive worth while & was told the parts were on national back order, and wasn't sure when parts would arrive. He said they ordered 200 kits to start with. I asked about safety concerns since I will be heading North to help my friend out who hit the moose & drove over it earlier this year, the roads up there really suck bad & beat the heck out of a truck. Anyone heard of parts failing completely? I'd hate for a part failure & need to have my truck towed back 300 miles.
