Tie Rod

Have '98.5 D2500 Quad Cab with about 178,000 miles. About two months ago while going home the truck started vibrating and shaking. Pulled over quickly to take a look. Tires still inflated but looked under the truck and the drivers side outer tie rod "fell apart". Lashed the pieces up and called tow truck. When looked further, it seemed that the "crimp" or "ring" holding the thing together rusted away! Replaced the outer tie rod and went slowly to shop down road for front end alignment. Here is picture:

Just looks worn out to me. Looks like it’s not seen a grease gun in a LONG time. Things do tend to fall apart when not maintained properly.
