2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Tie Rods

I need to do the tie rods on the truck and had some questions. Whats the going rate on these things? Definitely want to use Moog. Dealer wants $196 for just the outer, yikes. Which one usually wears out first the inner or outer or both? Looking at around $220 for the set I am planning on doing the outer now and the other later or is it better to do it all at one time?



Looked at Rock Auto and I am not sure of which p# is the correct one. Looks like p#ES3540 (outer) $53 and p#ES3539 (inner) $55 for 2wd w/independent front suspension. Is there still a discount with Rock Auto?

I'm not too sure of the part numbers and such, but check out www.lukeslink.com for some good alternatives. I just did this on my track-bar on my 4wd, and it worked like a charm. It gives you the adjustability to dial in the tension on the link and eliminates the whole wear part. Not too sure if they are intended to replace the tie-rod ends, but check it out. I thought that I remember seeing something about them working for the tie rod ends.

Another quick question. Might as well do the ball joints at same time, how do they come off? Looks like there are 4 rivots holding each one to the control arm.

Getting ready to do the front end on my 97... . Also looked at Rock Auto and also at my local Napa where I have an account... Napa brand is actually made by Dana so I guess its a toss up as to which one is the best...
