Has anyone every looked into the idea of our RAMS having a tilting hood like the big rigs? I think it would be great from the standpoint of servicing the engine etc. I don't know whether it is cost prohibitive or not. Does anyone know whether this is even a possibility?

Thanks,

Bob Caldwell

Ever since I purchased my truck, I have been wondering the same thing. A tilted hood would be so sweet, especially when working on the 4x4. If anyone knows where to have this done, I would apreciate any comments.

Yep, just bring your ride over to my place, I'll do fer ya', I have a sawsall and I think I can drum up some old gate hinges. :p :p :p

Later ,Rob

P. S. I got some new, real sharp blades fer the sawsall!!:D

I'll Help Too!!

Hey Rob, I've got a 5 Gallon pail of Bondo to fill in the gaps and sawsall marks:D :D

Seriously though, if someone made a fiberglass tip forward front end it could be pretty cool!!

Sawsall marks!! Greg, I'm an ace with a sawsall, they're won't be any marks.

I could make a tilt front end... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ..... somebody wanna let me use their truck fer practice?

Never did it on a Ram, however, did it on a chevy, 1984 blazer!!!! It wasn't all that bad... we even got some hydralic rams off an old fork lift and pump and operated it from inside the cab... . A fiberglass tilt hood would be sweet with my Ram Air set-up??????I going to see Doug Holtfeld this weekend, and run it by him????:)

Any takers?????:D

Come on guys, we all know that the acetelylene torch and sawzall will leave way too much distortion, just drop by my place, and ill have a go with the plasma cutter, i bet i could have that hood a tippin in about 10 minutes, oh yeah, i have some cool gold colored edge trim that would hide all the cut marks, now for the 20" gold wire wheels and the fast and furious wing and we are set:eek:

This idea was considered back in the concept stages. I remember seeing a drawing or picture of the second generation dodge with a tilt up hood that you are talking about. I was disappointed when the trucks were finally built that it did not have the easy access hood. This type of hood may have cost a few cents more and the bean counters said no. It would be interesting to know the "rest of the story" on why this type of hood did not survive.

Just leave the hood off and let everyone admire the mighty Cummins. Of course, the Ford guys will say you did it because you have to work on it all the time.

I asked the same thing about a year ago and got no good ideas. :( I talked with a local body shop and they said it could be done but would be really involved with all the accesories on the fenders. You would have to make extensions for all the wiring or remount it all were it wouldn't tilt with the hood. I know someone out there has to have done it to a show truck, I just haven't seen one yet. :( A tilt hood would sure make it a lot easier to work on these tall 4x4s, expecially for short sawed off guys like me. It takes a 2' tall sawhorse just for me to change my oil, and it's real intertaining to watch me wash the dang thing. :p

I think i'll do some studying on mine. I am also a short guy with a tall 4 X 4. My freightliner has the longest hood in the industry and I can just barely reach the top front of the hood to lift it. I'd better not get any shorter. If it wasn't for those inner fenders and all the stuff on them it wouldn't be so bad.

rubberneck P. S. glasspacks and 8" exhaust tip are recomended to make the above combo look just right, but are not required

Soooooo, you don't wanna tilt front end?:) ;) :p

I also have a plasma cutter,but that doesn't make enough noise!:D

I just did some lookin' at the posibility of a tilt front, it looks waaaay to difficult, with all the anti-lock brack crap and all. You'd have to be a relocating fool to make it work. One could make it work, but I'm not gonna' be the ginny pig. ;) :)

Not Adventurous?

Come on Rob, where's your sense of Adventure? I'll be glad to come over, bring my 5-Gallon bucket of Bondo, and stand around and give moral [immoral] support to your project!!

Your truck would look really trick with both ends tilted up!!

Come on!! Be the first! Be adventurous!!:D :D

Greg,

Although the bucket o' Bondo sounds tempting, there's just tooooo much BS under the hood fer me. My uncle's '97 without ABS looks much easier, but still, I dunno if I want to tackle it, and he probobly wouldn't be happy if I tried it on his truck. :-laf :-laf
