Timber Getting in W. Australia.

I think they used a 20 horse hitch to pull out a single log, oxen for pulling a cable to a log, a steam powered reciprocating saw, a tree so big they were only able to make the crosscut stroke about 6" at the largest diameter, team notch cutting off scaffolds and a bush logger making sleepers and his own bread in the preview below.

Timber isn't just big business in Australia, it's big sport too. Ever watch Stihl Timbersports? Down under it's a team effort. They compete in the same manner as we play slow pitch softball. Many towns have teams and they compete on a weekly basis( or at least they did when I dabbled in it) with neighboring towns. While we prefer to cut white pine, they us hardwood. A good man can cut a 10x10 white pine in under 10 seconds with an axe. They measure in minutes. They are TOUGH! They're also a lot of fun to be around.

Is it still legal to harvest those big trees? What are they?

I am driving to Houlton, bored out of my mind. So I googled what species were harvested in Western Australia. The answer is eucalyptus and sandalwood.
