I just got off the phone with Casey Balvert, he purchased a set of Timbrens for his truck and they are no way going to fit. We measured and checked out both trucks and there is no way mine would fit on Casey's. I have a 4x4 and Casey has a 2x4. The part number listed for our trucks until July was DR3500C. They now have a completely different part number DR3500CA and Timbren apparently found the old unit doesn't fit on 2wd's. The new unit appears to have been made for the 2wd's and a spacer for use with the 4wd's, at least that's how it looks to Casey and me.

There was a post a while back about the Timbrens changing the ride on an empty '03 truck and I suspect that was a 2wd that had the 3500C kit. If that is the case, I would contact the supplier or Timbren to get the right part. The truck definetely would ride like a lumber wagon if you do not have at least a half an inch of clearance between the axle and the Timbren. I hope this gets to any disgusted G3 2wd owners that may have gotten the original part number.

I contacted Timbren at 800-263-3113 regarding the lack of clearance for the 2003 2WD Heavy Duties. When they developed the original kit, they did not realize there was a difference in the frame to axle clearance compared to the 4WD. They are shipping out new brackets today at no charge that will provide the proper clearance and ride. Anyone with a 2003 2WD who has ordered the DR3500C kit should call them to obtain the correct brackets. Anyone that is planning on ordering a kit for a 2WD should make sure that you get the DR3500CA kit with the new brackets. I believe this kit is also good for the 4WD as it contains a spacer and a longer bolt as well.

A good company to do business with.

Timbrens act as an alternative to air bags. They are a rubber spring that rides on the axle when you have a load. There was a bit of confusion because of the difference in clearances between the 2wd's and the 4wd's. See picture of my truck w/Timbren.

Casey is that the same part number for the 3500 SRW?

Ken,

According to the Timbren website it should be the same number. DR3500CA. You may want to veryify that by calling the 800 number however. They are manning the phones today even though it is a holiday for a lot of Canada.

I have a 2500 4x4 but I felt the Timbrens touched too soon so I cut about 3/4" from the brackets. They touched the axle with a very light load before (with a resulting rough ride), now they touch at around 1500 lbs and feels good at that load. It squats a little before they touch but that's okay, I want them for overload springs.

Timbren users, I have a question. I noticed that they mount on the inside of the wheel and my air bags mount on the outside. The question is, do you think they both could be used on the same truck. I use the air bags to level side to side as my camper is one side heavy.
