I'm at 72,000 easy well maintained miles on my 01. 5 2500 4X4 now and the transmission is starting to slip just a bit under load. Not much mind you, but I can feel it around 55 MPH on an ever so slight uphill incline if I gently accelerate while pulling my trailer. It does it only in overdrive. It's been serviced every 20,000 miles religiously. I believe it's the converter clutch pack.

I'm considering a complete rebuilt trans from DTT built by Bill K. Can anyone experienced with this company and their Bill K. built trans give me some input on their quality and service please? :)

:D I can tell you that you will not be dissappointed with DTT. I would do it again in a heartbeat. Best mod on my truck!!!! Oo.

Muleskinner, Give me a week and I'll let you know. I get mine put in on May 2nd, at their shop. They have been very helpful when I talk to them and I have heared nothing but good about them and their trannys/TCs. One thing to try if you haven't been doing it, is check the band adjustments. That is what I got behind on and it bit me in the ***.

Good luck,

Chris

I'll probably get flamed for this, but if your transmission is working well other than the converter slipping under load, why not just put a new converter in it and do some minor tweaks to the valve body. If it has been serviced every 20k and the fluid looks good with no metal, you will most likely get many more miles out of it.

Actually a good thought. I just figured since I had to go to all of the trouble to R&R the trans, I might as well get the trick setup and be fixed for the rest of the life of the truck.

I have had mine in for about 65k now and am happy as can be with it. I have to admit if it were mine I would do as you originally thought and do the whole thing (which is what I did that and its easy to spend someone elses money :-laf ). Yeah it will cost a few more bucks now but it sure wont if you have to take it out again a year later to service the other clutches or whatever. I would call Bill and ask him what he thinks he has always struck me as straight shooter.

Dtt has a high following. Very good customer service.

You have made an excellent choice. They have done more for honest trans rebuilding than anyone. They have done more research on the problems with the factory build too. Then followed up with redesigned parts to keep us on the road.
