ive finally decieded that ive had enough of my speedo/odo, crapping out on me, so im going to try out a new vss. i found them on rock auto a while back. and now that i look at them i realize that the one listed for the 93' dodge that fits my description is not the correct one. it says its for an auto transmission, but mentions nothing for a manual. it has 3 wires, an the connection wont work.

i check it out more, and the sensor from 93-up is the same pretty much. but the sensor from 92-down is the one that is used on the 1st gens. its a 2 wire sensor with the right connection (screw on collar).

here are 2 pictures. one of the new style sensor that wont work, and one of the "92" sensor. the "92" sensor though, has a wird male/female plug on it though? im thinking ill just remove the whole wire harness thats pictured and just use the sensor with my existing harness? or else cut and splice in the new harness? does this look like the right sensor to yall? anybody ever delt with this before?

I'm not 100% on this, but it looks just like mine... only cleaner. I have an auto. Bear in mind it plugs into the side of the transfer case on a 4wd so that you get the right speedo reading in 4 Low. If there is a difference between the auto and manual version, the only thing I can think of is an extra wire on the auto to go the the transmission for o/d and such. I would imagine this should work for you, but dont quote me.

I had the one on the right on my 92 Auto, When it went out i my O/D would not work, i ended up replacing the VSS and the reducer. i just spliced into my existing harness to use the new connector. I did it in a Dealership parking lot in Prince George, BC

The pic on the right is the style our trucks use. There were two different ones used. A two wire or a three wire.

The 4x4 models used the 2 wire. It didn't matter on the trans. A 2WD auto used the 3 wire model.

great. thanks guys

sounds like it was a fun job up north, Chris :-laf

Yeah it was pretty easy up there, good weather at the time:-laf the dealership had them but i can't remember the price of them, i was paying canadian anyways and this was back when it wasn't equal to the dollar.

fellas, just burnt up my first full tank of fuel since ive had the new vss in. the speedo/odo have worked flawlessly since the new vss. and ive never been able to get through an entire tank of fuel with out it quiting, since i first bought the truck! so this is my first chance to read my mpg. get this.

18. 4 mpg im very happy. especially since this is the tank that i had when i did the 366 and i hit up around 3k rpms a few times. with the size tires im runing and all the weight i have in the bed, im pretty pleased.

You guys ahe tough.

My VSS (which controls OD if your vehicle is OEM designed) crapped out on my (1992 truck) in the park of the battle of Shiloh, TN. Long w----ayyy from home. I found a VSS in Nashville or "Nashvuhl" if you mean it.

I lernt (yes, that IS a word) to install a mystery switch to prevent the loss of OD (I have the auto). I really don't know what the mystery is about the switch, but now OD worky with or w/o the VSS.

Philip, you are mostly correct. The 3 wire is for 93 2wd autos only. All the rest use the 2 wire VSS. Mom's 92 has the same VSS as my other trucks have had.

If you have a 4x4, period, get the 2 wire, unless you have some factory fluke truck.

I do hope, Jimmy, that you're not refering to your girlfriend... .

Sorry, I couldn't let that one go, it was too easy...
