I don't remember when I installed these Rancho's but they have seen their better days. Truck had been having a lot of new rattles lately and here is the reason why. The bushings in two of the ends were gone and the others are all cracked. After replacing the shocks and some new tires its amazing how much better it rides.

After a good wash and wax job she looks pretty good for a 10 year old.

Had some mystery front end vibe when at a stop, changed my old RS5000's out for the newer RS9000's. Really rides nice once again.

i cant see how any shocks,,new or old or better ?? can make a 2500 or bigger ride nice,,how would you be able to tell,,,,my 02 has 105,000 on it with O,E shock,,,rides like a tank, thinking about a new set of ??? this summer just because

If you were to use the Rancho 9000XL adjustable shocks, you would be able to dial in the level of dampening you desire. I changed out the front stabilizer bar bushings as well, the front end is smooth, no more teeth cracking pot hole fears. :D

Looks like those shocks in the picture are Rancho 9000's, they have a lifetime warranty but I suppose you would need a recipe for them to get warranty.

Shocks make all the difference in the world. They determine the ride characteristics of your truck. I would go with a good monotube shock like Bilstein, Edlebrock, or something similar. They are internally self-adjusting and will give the best ride. Rancho just started making a mono-tube shock now, though I don't know how they are. Good luck.

I installed the same Rancho9000 adjustables about 13 years ago. Still seem to feel OK... (or maybe they are wearing out & I'm just used to it :p. ) Not leaking. All the white paint has turned to rust. A lifetime warranty? Bought them from Sears... not sure if I can producea receipt (recipe?) tho..... Wouldn"t mind tryin' to return them if I didn't have to spend any $$$.

After experiencing the death wobble ( a rapid bouncing up and down of the front end at 65 mph after hitting a bump on the highway with the wheels turned) I replaced the OEM shocks at 40,000 miles, with Bilsteins. It made all the difference, I have not experienced it since. With 270,000 miles I was getting a shimmy in the front end, I replaced the shocks, what I found was the drivers side shock, when compressed took 10 seconds to extend and the passenger side took 8 seconds to extend, the new shocks took 1 to 2 seconds. They needed replacing. The shimmy got only a little better, It turned out to be a front tire tread seperation 5/32 of tread remained on the Cooper Discoverers. When I put on the spare the shimmy went away. The new Bilsteins ride great with my new BF goodrich KM 2 tires 255 85r 16 load range E.

thanks all ill look in to the bilstiens,,,got the clock spring and gonna do U joints then the shocks,, then should be good for another 10 years,,,

What kind of shocks did you go with?

Craig

I ended up going with the NAPA house brand, the OEM replacements. I liked the adjustable shocks it was nice to dial in the ride. I don't drive the truck as a daily driver so it mostly gets used to tow the boat, tractor or 5th wheel so the extra weight seems to make it ride a little smoother if there is such a thing. This truck has a really stiff ride.
