pan gasket change

I have a lot of miles on mine and had the work done by J & H performance , Redding ca. you have to jack up the engine a little and is quite a job. if you do this I reccomend changing the side cove gasket at the same time as all of the gaskets will leak in time. this work was done at about 500,000 miles. now over 930,000 and I still have some leaks from where I don't know.

I have a back up motor waiting to install when my motor goes out, not going to change gaskets again. stormy

Changing my oil pan gasket was one of my first "mods". I performed it myself about 2 years ago with some of the buddies. With my limited mechanical experience it was a real pita but I got through it.

One bit of advice I got from a mechanic was to put gasket sealant on bottom of the block and stick the gasket to that. This helped in not having to worry about correctly lining up the gasket and the pan since it was held in place.

I had an engine lift and we disconnected the coolant lines, intake, and engine mounts to properly lift the engine w/out damaging anything. All in all the procedure took us about a day to perform (would have been far less but conversations, side projects, and beer tended to keep us from concentrating on the task at hand)

If you can tab the kdp, this project will be time consuming but not tough. Good luck!!

Put a jack under each side of the frame under the cab and lift the body let the front suspension drop and see if you have enough clearance to get the pan out. there's quite a bit of clearance

There is a cross member that is bolted or welded to the frame in front of the sump in the pan that won't drop with the suspension.
