I have firend who is putting new injectors and a rebuilt pump in a 92 Cummins. he got it all together and it runs but white smoke and skipping everywhere. He seems to think he may have lost the factory pump time somehow and wants to start over. He also thinks the only way to do it is to send it back to the diesel pump shop. Can anyone tell me how to time the pump and lock it in the proper place again. Is there anything else that would cause the truck not to run right. He bought the thing from another guy who says the pump was junk and didn't want to pay to have it fixed. Thanks for any help

If the timing marks on the pump flange and cover are lined up and the engine runs that retarded, the timing gear may have been set one tooth off while work was done by previous owner. May not have even needed a new pump. Others on here may have more advice but that is what it sounds like to me.
