just wondering if anyone has advance the timing on naturally aspirated engine diesel and with what results i have a john deere 4020 with the 404 cu in. engine i am at 5000 ft elevation just tyring to get some more horse power
I bumped the timing on a 6. 9 Ford N-A. Seemed to help it idle smoother, gave a little more get up and go (took it to ALMOST the level of a stock CTD:-laf). Dint seem to make much difference in MPGs. I wouldnt go too far on it without researching possible head gasket problems.
If I had my knowledge and skills now, back in 78' I would have put a turbo on it! Swapped over to a Ford 7700 in 79' 4 cyl turbo that made the same power... ... . and no intercooler, man the power that thing would have made with one.
Miss that 4020, big ole 6 cylinder that can make lots of power.
