Ok so a couple weeks ago I bought a second CTD (Had 1st one for 5 years-No Problems)

So I signed up for TDR and now I think it may be helpful.

Last night I run-in 55-60 mph in the carpool lane with my son and suddenly no power.

No snap, crack, bang or nothing but the go pedal to the floor. https://www.turbodieselregister.com/forums/newthread.php?do=newthread&f=36#

Was lucky to coast from the carpool lane to the off ramp with no hassles.

Didn’t get a good look until today and the pictures below is what I found. https://www.turbodieselregister.com/forums/newthread.php?do=newthread&f=36#

What happened? What am I getting into? Is this parts replacement or a whole new engine?

As per the sticky the vehicle is definitely disabled, Its a ‘93 350 w/at

I anxiously await your responses... ... .

Could not post pictures, check out the gallery... ... . https://www.turbodieselregister.com/forums/misc.php?do=getsmilies&wysiwyg=0&forumid=36#

The pictures didn't make it either? Is the front of the engine mangled?(broken timing gear cover). Sounds like it might be the KDP, "killer dowel pin". There is a dowel pin in the gear cover that can come out and get into the gears wreaking havov. I haven't seen or had this problem but have read of it much here. If this sounds like what happened, do a search for kdp or killer dowel pin, lots of info. From what I have read it is usually not fatal to the engine. bg

The 1st gens have more of a problem with the front cover bolts. They loosen up and fall out in to the gears. Either problem is not good. Gears get broken, cams get broken, the timing cover gets broken. Some times the damage is minimal. If you can get your pics up we can maybe help you more.

Um... Okaaay.....

The Pictures come up when I look at them... .

Under WT???? - Well you can guess what that means.....

Talked to the PO tonight, Very helpful guy, told me the injection pump was replaced not to long ago, I wonder if???????

Yes, timing cover is split and missing chunk out of top over pump gear. .

Thanks so far keep it commin'

Will try to resolve pictures, new to this (can you tell, the smilies didn't work either!)

if they still don't come up by tommorrow I might need suggestions... .

Thanks again

Don

I have an aluminum gear case and stamped steel cover for a first gen engine. However, from the photos it looks like you may have more problems than just that.

Joseph Donnelly - Thank you for the offer, and I might take you up on this in the future.

The PO (Previous Owner) is convinced its the pump. He has a receipt and warranty from a shop he has used a lot in the past. Even wants to go with me to see what they have to say! Will try to do this today, or some time next year (boy I sound like a real procrastinator).

Is this sort of catastrophic failure common with pump failures?

Thanks again for the input and the offers guys.....

Don

The only way this could be related to the pump is if the big shaft to gear nut came off, and/or the lock washer under the nut on the pump shaft.
