I want to advance my timing and am debating whether to pay someone to do it or buy the tools and do it myself. I usually like to buy the tools and do things my self, but after reading all the posts and TSB on timing, it seems difficult and I am reluctant to try it.

Is there anyone close to Chattanooga, TN that would be willing to help out with the timing? I would gladly reimburse you for your time.

OR

Should I try the local diesel shop (which I have no experience with). The local shop here is S. E. Diesel and they said they can set the timing in about 1. 5 to 2 hours at $74 / hr. I forgot to ask their method for setting the timing.

Also, my stock timing is 14*. I was thinking about going to 16*. What do you guys think?

Thanks :)

I had mine done by City Diesel in Knoxville, they charged $75. Also had my valves adjusted and the total for timing and valve adjustment was $254. Good people to deal with. Plus they are horsepower friendly. As far as going with 16, it made a big difference with mine. Lots more top end HP, EGT's went down about 100, but take a lot longer to get really hot (eg. 1300-1400 degrees). Give them a call. Oh yeah some friends of mine are all taking their trucks down there sometime, about 5 trucks total, they may be able to go a little less on the price. Let me know if you're interested in meeting up with them.

As far as a P-pumped 24v goes, it probably is the same procedure. Stock, the 24v actually came with an electronically controlled VP-44 fuel injection pump. Not the P7100.

Erik, you'll really like 16*. Waynesworld and I set mine a few weeks ago. Mine is at about 16 1/4*.

Timing

The Best man for the job in my opinion is One of our East TN Dodgers guys from the East TN TDR chapter. He has all the tools to do the job and I bet he could do it in no more than a hours time. He's done serveral member's rigs.

His number is 423-345-0466. He takes good care of our TDR guys.
