Does anyone know at what timing the 3 gen engine run? I know it's computer controlled, but what are the parameters? Typically, what would it be a crusing speed? Just trying to compare with the recommendations on here for the 12V.

Thanks.

I think it depends on the pilot injection, with the main charge going in at TDC? Just a guess.

Personally, I would think it would be quite a bit before TDC. But that's why I asked.

The recommened setting for the 12 valves is around 15 deg BTDC. 12 valves are set and that's it. They do not change.

I would think the 3 gens would be capable of much earlier timing because they can retard when needed.

Thanks.

When the timing is retarded, what is the purpose of that? I know the engine seems to run rougher when the timing is retarded.

the engine should actually smooth out a bit and become a little quieter with the timing retarted.
