:-{} This is pretty much how I feel but one side is an inanimate object. Went to set my timing and begin the install of new Bosch 230hp f-700 CTD injectors and I can not move the timing pin. I went ahead and got a new one and an o-ring from the cummins place and they look the same from what I can see and remember. But i beat on that thing with a little hammer even, i went and got my Dad (a wealth of knowledge ) but I hate doing that. Spent probably 3 hrs trying to pry twist and hammer it loose. Did not go so far as to break anything though. Put it back together and have been driving it for probably 4 months now. have time too put it down again and would like to get it done. Any help with the pin or comments on the injectors would be great.

As long as I'm on here I have been having a driveline vibration between 62 mph and 73 mph at coast, especially cresting the top of rolling hills. More than 6lbs of boost and vib goes away. Problem started 3 months after I went in an did a fully splined main shaft and new small 5th gear. transmission was great until I had a customer in the truck with a trailer out back and he wanted to see how much boost I could make. Matted it in 5th pointed straight up step hill at about 1750 rpms. 32 lbs of boost and a vib and i believe the limited slip seems to a little more chattery. I've wondered about carrier bearings in the rear end, pinion feels tight. I feel the vibration in the pedals and the shifter, t-case shifter and the floor of the cab as well.

Thanks again for any help you can give. Sounds like I need to tear the truck down and start over again. Oo.

Had the same timing pin issues on a truck this weekend. Can you force the pin forward towards the front structure? If you can, then that should be all you need to do the timing, just be very slow and gentle when you bar the engine, and have a helper keep light pressure on the timing pin, it will pop ito place, and then stop baring, as the plastic pin tip will sheer off very easily.

As far as the vibration, check all your u joints, and wiggle the pinnion on the rear diff, to see if there is any play at all.

If I were you I would forget about the timing pin and use the dropped valve method to find TDC. More accurate. Search the 2nd gen 12 valve forum to find out how to do that.

I remember reading about the dropped valve method but had forgotten. Somehow my brain just never registered that you didn't need the pin. Question: instead of using the dropped valve method can I use a dial indicator and go down the injector hole, sence I am pulling them as well. I figure as long as I'm their and have em drop em in an do a compression test at the same time.

As far as the pinion it is not loose. I have not pulled the axles and done an Inch pound of rotation measurement yet but it has no play. The u-joints are reasonably new with the main shaft and show no play. i have not pulled the shaft and ck for smoth range of motion yet as I have been really buisy. It really reminds me of when my dad's carrier bearing on the ring gear side of his dana 60 went out in his van. but yet again I have not gotten a chance to pull the cover and ck. That ck is easy once the cover is off, pull the carrier cap on the ring gear side and if the diff falls loose you know. His pinion never getting loose is what made it so hard for us to diag in the first place. seems like his took almost a year to get so bad we had to lay it down and pull it apart. I know that we should do it before it gets worse but who has spare time anymore. I've even been working sat and sun days to keep up sence my girl friend and mother had the bright idea that I should go back to school and finish my degree. now I'm so close that I feel like I have to or its all a waste. but the truck just keeps complaining a little more and alittle more. Eventually she will put her tire down and refuse to co-operate, hopefully at that point I will have time.

hmmm on the days set aside do i go after the vibration, or sort out and service the motor. if i service the motor and through in new injectors maybe I can make enough power to just kick the vibration happy part out, then I'll know exactly what it is.

On these inj. 's anyone ever deal with putting the fords in their, I know it 's kind of sacreligious but they were priced right.

Thanks
