well i made a beginners mistake. i didnt pin the pump when i took it out i only pinned the engine. to find tdc on the pump do flip the pump pin around i put that plastic pin in until it locks for tdc? and then after that rotate ccw until dail indicator stops moving and rotate clockwise to 6. 3 for 15 degrees timing ?

also do i move it 6. 3 or 3. 1/2 i read somewhere on here that the engine moves half the speed of the pump so you cut the reading in half

any help would be great

thanks

i just did timing on my truck yesterday, ive never done it before, and let me tell you it's not all that hard to do. make sure your engine is at TDC, clean the shaft and gear mating surfaces with brake clean, then with some good elec. contact cleaner, push the gear on the pump, tighten about 40 ft. lb. using old washer, (i replaced both the washer and nut while i was in there), make sure your dial indicator is set inbetween 7. 0 and 9. 0mm, start barring the engine counter clockwise while watching the dial indicator drop, keep rotating engine untill the dial stops dropping, once it stops, stop rotating engine, zero your dial inidcator, now rotate engine clockwise untill you get the correct lift for you pump, once at correct lift, pull pump gear, make sure dial indicator is still at the correct lift, once gear is pulled, rotate engine back 20-30 deg. counterclockwise to get rid of gear lash, then rotate clockwise back to TDC, once at TDC, while rotating counteclockwise on the pump gear, push the gear on the shaft of the pump, install new lock washer and nut, while having a buddy hold the engine from moving, tighten the nut to reccomended spec. , i took mine up to 150lb. ft. with no problems, ive head that some take it up to 200lb. ft. , go back check the timing one more time to make sure it's at the right lift spec at TDC, and your done.
