The timing tools are a bit expensive and most shy away from purchasing them.

What would be a fair rate to charge for rental?

Would anyone here be willing to rent?

Ideas... suggestions?

I'm thinking on purchasing a set and doing this.

TIA

I bought my Snap On timing tools several years ago. I would never rent them out. If the rentee was heavy handed or dropped the dial indicator, the rental fee would not cover the replacement $$. I've only loaned them out twice. Both times to trusted buddies (a Cat mech and a Case IH mech). Both of these friends would replace anything that they would have damaged, no questions asked.

I have a full set with dv socket and all that I have rented out numerous times. I charge $40 and you can keep it for as long as you need them (within reason). unfortunately they are rented out right now. I have alwasys had good luck with TDR guys using them. One guy broke the dial indicator and replacecd it and another actually returned the tools in a custom box that he had made from scratch. Pretty cool. These are the people that you find here. PM me and I'll try and track them down.

ive timed several engines without the tools. i just remove the front cover(same as doing the kdp). then i line up the pump with the timing pin, loosen the pump gear, turn the engine counterclockwise aproxemitly half a tooth (each tooth is 10 degrees) and tighten the pump gear. reinstall everything and your ready to roll. its very easy and takes about 3 hours.

check the static timing on your engine first it will be listed on the information plate on the gear case. it will be anywhere from 12. 5 to 14 degrees depending on year make and model. so base it on that as for how much you need to move it. again each tooth on the crank gear is 10 derees.

I've already ordered it because I need to time mine anyway.

It was 140 w/o the dv socket. The socket was 24 on fleabay.

I probibally would have popped for the snap on if I thought it was that cheap.

I'm not worried about the accuracy of mine. The way the factory does theirs makes me think this way is overkill. I just like repeatability.

I have the 370 injectors so I think I'll set mine @ 18. 5. I seem to suffer MPG's on the highway runs so IMO 18. 5 should help a bit. At 75 MPH I'm getting somewhere in the 15 MPG range. I used to get 21- 23 going to work. Speeds under 50 MPH and few red lights. The UTE bumper hurt it a little too.

In fact I think the tools will pay for themselves as soon as I put some miles on it.

I may still rent them locally. I want to see them each time theyre used to keep track of their condition.
