At the back of pump, center of where all the fuel lines are fastened to the high pressure head, there is a pipe plug. That is removed and in it's place is inserted an adapter, inwhich is placed a dial gauge.
This gauge will read the plunger lift position when the engine is rotated to TDC on #1. The gauge is zeroed and when you turn the engine over it will register the plunger movement.
