I have my truck set to 17. 5* advanced. I have everything in the signature. is this too much, the truck runs well like this.

I put a stock head gasket in when I had the engine rebuilt at 157K. I am running the 10 plate in the stock position. I also whould like to know what the ideal amout of boost with the SuperB turbo is. Or, what can I run. I was told that with the larger turbo and the 3pc manifold I could safely run up to 45-48 psi and not be at risk of popping the head gasket. this turbo really does not start breathing till about 42 psi. I am running 32psi right now.

when you did the rebuild, did you put arp studs in? stock gasket and stock studs probably won't last too long at 40-48PSI. . imho. Otherwise, if you did put better studs in, sure, probably be OK...

bummer, I would be real careful then... Are you re-torquing the new hg /w standard studs at least.

I've read, and been told, that with stock hg, and studs, 30PSI max (give or take a bit). I've punched up to 38 a few times but at that point i'm flirting with disaster... You never know, keep it gated to be 30 or less, IMHO.

Wait a minute. I have read post after post of people running just under 40 PSI with a little HX35. I am running a larger turbine. I have been told that I am safe to around 50psi boost. I know that boost is not the main concern, its drive pressure that is. I have read here the the drive pressure to boost ration is around 2:1 ratio for HX35, and that drive pressure for the SuperB is around 1. 32:1. I have been running this truck at the old school HX35 level. I set the SuperB boost to waist at 32psi, same as the HX35. I am not even in the map for the B yet. I purchased the B under the premise that I could run more boost than the HX35, and have in the past. I just set the timing again and landed a little over 16*, I did some plumbing work under the hood and made everything all pretty, i laced all the pipes and hoses and directed all tubes and things like that, but I got rid of a few hoses and went with a different waist gate feed line. I was just wondering how mush boost is safe to run. I don't mean to ramble on, but if what your telling me is true, then I am really screwed, and my head should be toast. :{

If this is the case, then it would be more to an advantage for me to put the HX35 back under the hood. Because, at 30 psi the HX35 kept things cooler than the SuperB.

NHays -

It is up to you whether you want to take heed to warnings or not. I have heard of HG blowing at 35 psi and some say they have run 40 psi with no upgrades and have never had any problems (Rare cases).

Until you get a chance to o-ring the head and put some studs in, it is not safe to run over 35 psi boost.

I'd leave the super b on, leave all as you currently have it. I just wouldn't run extended periods at high boost. You're right, it's just not boost but over all pressure. The b is probably helping... I have a very similar setup to yours, #10 plate, but 18* timing and 191 DVs. I'm still using the hx35 but i really make an effort to keep the boost below 35psi (fear of the hg blowing, but also because the hx35 is just blowing hot air after 35). Every truck is different. What caused one to fail may not trouble another. ... And, your truck may be in better shape than mine since it just had a rebuild and has a new HG anyway. At least for me, I don't fix unless it's broken ;)

I replaced my 35 with the "B" trying to run cooler towing. So far so good. Spools as quick as the 35 also. Came set at 40 but I rarely run more than 30with the trailer in tow.

I agree with jim, you will be fine. I ran 18 degrees with a 3k, dv's, and big injectors at 50psi with small twins and never had a problem with the stock gasket. If you are really worried about it, just re chech the tq on your head bolts, but I would not even do that if it were mine :) good luck..... It will only be a matter of time before you need more power :) LOL, then you may consider some fire rings and studs :)

JTdieselram, how long did you run like that? I'm running something similar minus the injectors and twins and can easily hit 38-40psi. I'm not really worried. I mean, If I just don't bash the truck constantly I figure I'll be OK...

I ran 50 PSI out of my HX-40 with a stock HG and stocks bolts @ 16 degrees of timing for a about 2 years and never had a problem. :)

and it saw 50PSI many times a day

Michael

My first gen with 205k miles saw 48psi with bone stock gasket and bolts for 2 years. My 98 and a friends 97 both puked a stock gasket at 36psi. So I would say your just gonna have to find out that hard way like I did and a couple friends of mine. Seems like every truck is different and yours may go 50psi but be warned.
