I've recently purchased a 1995 and I'm getting ready to pin the kdp. Was thinking about turning the timing up some. How much should I turn it to and how will it affect the performance. I don't believe the truck has been modified before. I really want fuel mileage more than anything else, but I would'nt mind a little more power. What would be safe to do without having transmission problems. It's auto. Thanks in advance.

I have mine timed at 15. 5. I too go for mileage and performance as I pull 32' 5th wheel. Get 11. 5 - 14+ pulling depending on wind and terrain. I purchased this truck new.

From my research 15 to 16 will give you the best milage. I don't think you will feel anymore power. The only side affect I have is a small amount of gray smoke at idle on cold start. After a few minutes it goes away.

I recently bumped my to somewhere between 14. 5 and 15. I personally have not seen the MPG gains as of yet, in fact the opposite. But I did just find the fuel return line leaking rather profusely at the tank. Looks like it has been leaking for awhile so that is probably where my mileage is going. Until I can get that fixed it is impossible to judge the impact the timing has had on my mileage.
