A friend in IL wants to move a tiny home to MI. Something happened with construction and the width is 8'-8" instead of the allowable 8'-6" max width. Any clues about getting permits to move something like that thru IL, IN and MI to get to its destination? I'd like to help her out and I'm all ears.

That was sort of my thought. They think it's too wide, but probably looks just right to me and anyone else. I will look into getting required permits, but might just see if they want to just go for it.

Having moved a lot of boats, many over with, If you behave and don't drive crazy I really doubt anyone will notice 2" . I moved a Dead Rise boat up from Va to Ny that was just under 10' wide . Back then the Jersey Turnpike had the ticket system for the tolls That boat just squeaked through those toll plazas with inches to spare. No one ever questioned me or even asked for my Non existent permits. Or said anything about over with boats not being allowed on the turnpike. Ah... The Good old days....

I towed a 9' wide SeaRay around the Seattle/Edmonds area for 6.5 years without a problem and it looked REALLY big on the trailer. SnoKing

I don't worry about the police, I worry about the insurance company if something goes wrong for whatever reasons.

So you believe the insurance company can refuse to pay out of hand? You never go one mile per hour over the speed limit? Never cross a solid white line?

It would where I come from, not in the past but nowadays.
Insurance companys take every opportunity to refuse to pay.

In America, stupidity is still covered by one's insurance. If it was not, then they would be rejecting 50% or more of the claims.

The only way insurance would get involved in this case, is if the extra unpermited 2" caused someone to be forced off the road and caused a death. Then you would see them go after insurance, your house, assets and even possibly jail time.

I was going to jump in and do it they couldn't find somebody to do it reasonably, but it sounds like they have found somebody, just need to work out a date.

I'd venture that a lot more than 50% of auto claims are the result of bad habits, gross violations and breaking a law of some sort.

I am pretty sure that if you measure the tire bulge on any wide utility trailer, such as a 82"-83" between the fenders of a car hauler, they will be about 103-104" wide.

As I mentioned previously I was measured for width because of RV awnings. If you are pulling a 102 inch wide toyhauler commercially that has an awning AZ requires a overwidth permit. However, if it is your personal RV then keep on truckin'.
