Browsing thru TDR latest issue noticed the artical on the clamp & WD 40 good idea and never seen a thread of a problem as i'M sure there has been seen failures at the turbo /exhaust area. & when installing band clamp's(stainless steel band's used to couple two say exhaust pipes together)
Great ides BUT requiers two hands .
Easier way coat inside with a light coat of gun grease and a added slippery note next apply oil from the squirt can and install.
This cuts out the rub(drag) when trying to streach the clamp over another surface.
My guess is some have found a broken clamp/band a couple months/miles later.
Band clamps rank up there with tie wrap's
silicone sealents and bailing wire!!!

tdrmbramr,

Are you talking about the V-Clamp that connects the down pipe to the Turbo exhaust outlet?

Its tough to see if the clamp is on both surfaces correctly. The clamp hides the connection well. I know what you mean.

They can be tough to position correctly when you are juggling the down pipe in one hand and the V-Clamp in the other. #ad

I think he's talking about a wide bandaid style clamp to hold sections of the exhaust system together. I use them because it's easy to get the exhaust system back apart. The U-bolts crimp the pipes and create a real problem if you need to pull sections apart. Fact is that when you use the U-bolts you usually need to cut the system apart #ad

I understand now.

I use the 4" band clamps too. I used a 14" piece of flex exhaust pipe to connect my new HX-40 downpipe into the exsisting exhaust system. I have found even a band clamp will crush flex pipe tight around hard pipe where it won't slide off. I found this out when my HX-40 bearings went.

Insist on Easy-Seal band clamps. They are the best. Don't get the cheap ones that use that what looks like a rolled up piece of aluminum foil as a sealing gasket.

Mac,

Not really. Its so short. The flexpipe connection is just in front of the transmission.

Try wrapping your exhaust pipe with Header wrap. Maybe that will help the drone.
