new trailer inspection pointers

Electric over Hydraulic Brake Actuators

OK - I somewhat know that they use to use hydrauic and other methods - but if you are looking for a late model used trailer - have the manufactures settled on a single type? I guess what I want to know - do some of the trailer manufactures use the "Cummins" type and other's use the "Powerstroke/Duramax" if you get what I'm asking.....

Afraid so.

I have owned trailer with mechanical system operated with cables and 12v motor, mechanical system with what could be called rack and pinion system and have seen an all hydraulic system, all on newer than 95 models. With both mechanical systems I am familiar with, you can crank them in/out by hand if batt. or motor fails. With the hyd. system you are dead in the water if you break a hose. bg

I noticed on one (a Nash) that it

didn't come in square - i. e. the top was flush but the bottom was out maybe a full inch - is this a standard problem ---

I am not familiar with that unit, they have to be square when fully in or out for the weather seals on the slide to properly contact the wall surfaces. bg
