We have a 2006 3500 4 x 4 Mega Cab. Our left turn signal and brake lights don't work when we pull a trailer. (The truck lights work, but not any trailer that we pull) A truck outfitter checked it out for us and said it was the TIPM module. Does anyone know where that is? The local Dodge dealer doesn't even know.

Under the hood, drivers side of the engine compartment towards the front. Its the power distribution center (Totally Integrated Power Module).

You need to take it to a dealer and have them hook up their StarScan and turn the trailer lights back on in the TIPM.

Instead blowing a fuse it shuts down the computer leg of that circuit and you have to have dealer turn it back on. Stupidest thing they ever did. #@$%!

There is a tsb out that they can reflash the TIPM to a higher amperage default that won't make the TIPM spasm. I will see if I can find it... ... ... . TSB #08-021-06 TIPM flash. It applies to trucks with a build date before April 03, 2006. But I would verify that first. that TSB was created for the towing crowd that had problems with their trailer lights. We tried it on my truck even though my problems were lost front turn signals and low beams. Never had a trailer problem. But I have not had anymore problems since that reflash.

fix the trailer first or it will go down again. It takes about 250 events to shut down the tipm and there is a limited number of resets before it is dust.

I am looking for the best way to deal with this issue; although I have not had any problems yet. I do tow a variety of trailers on occasion; my trailers are all good; but when I'm towing friends horse trailers; there could easily be a short in a turn signal circuit that I don't know about until its too late.

Have seen where some have just wired 10 amp inline fuses in the left and right turn signal wires close to the 7 Pole Trailer Connecter. Looks like an easy fix. But have seen where others have built a complete box with relays/fuses for all the Trailer Electrical connections.

Does anyone have a schematic/picts/procedures for how they did this?

Thanks;

Mark

My truck is 2007 3500 4X4 QC, LB, 5. 9 Ltr, 6 spd/G56, MagHytek Rear Diff Cover, bought 06/2009, 25K Miles. Not Dailly Driver.

How do I get the truck profile to appear in my posts?

Thanks,

I would go to a big rig shop... ..... you can buy a nose box for a trailer with circuit breakers built in or at least you can look at one to better understand what is being discussed here.
