Had this discussion at the May Madness and the Chrysler rep said that it was a good idea to do. . After looking and trying to copy Motorheads setup, finding my own parts. .

I just now got done buying the parts online so I will get it together and if it works, I'll share the parts list ands how to do it. . as I won't have time to build set after set. . It will be Like motorheads setup in a box and split loom and such but I am sorting out the internals myself.

Have even a manual reset Circuit Breaker so it will only reset when I want it to.

Isn't the current recommendation to replace the fuse with a 10 amp, so when the overload is detected that the fuse will blow? instead of going to the dealer for the reset. This was published a short time back on the forum.

The guy that first built the unit decided not to continue with the product, because of a liability issue that might come his way, as I recall. If not I stand to be corrected.

Here's one that serves the same purpose I believe:

That's what I remember from all that too.....

If you are going to install the Modulite do you use the Auxilliary 12v wire that is already present at the plug? Does this aux 12v wire also go through the TIPM?
I guess there is no way to protect the backup circuit.

My old Jeep Grandwagoneer had the factory tow option. There is a box with several relays located on the rear frame. I noticed this device does about the same thing as the modulite but it's "old school". When the turn signal is activated you can hear the relay clicking in the box.

eric, make sure if you copy the TIPM saver I built, you do it right with TOP quality parts like I used and get the wiring correct so people don't screw up their truck wiring it wrong.

Yeah I got good quality parts ordered. . I Know how relays work. Got 50 amp relays, and I got a manual reset 40 amp Circuit breaker. . Will see how it does. . I have LED Lights on both my utility and my RV trailer. Should work fine. keep you up to date.

A 40 amp circuit breaker would be great for the charge circuit. I will wait to see the rest before I make any other comments

The modulite looks good, going to do that on Mr Dodge, will use a 40 amp relay up at the front controlled by the ign. sw. plus a cct breaker. May run new wiring to the rear for the trailer plug, oem kinda wimpie. What I want in the end is heavier wire to charge trailer batt. plus protect the tipm. I guess one could use the modulite to run all the lights at the rear except the backup. I think one should have a control on the 12V feed to the trailer plug prevent dead batt maybe. Laurie

I may be wrong but I don't think the modulite will do the trick if you have the trailer tow setup. (7 pin plug) If your trailer can operate with the four flat plug it should do the trick. bg

Also the modulite is likely made from cheap I/C and mini relays that while effective will likely NOT be as robust as the type that the OP is talking about building. I have read about the Moduylaite overheating on some trailer forums.

OK All. !!. Built it. . not as fancy as that one rich but it works.
I made 5 circuits. . left turn, right turn, lights, back up, and Electric Brakes
First the parts list.

This is a Cannex 5x5x2" Box. It has a seal on the lid.

This is the "T" connector for our truck. I have a 09 and you search for yours... the 4 wire is not on the protected side so you have to clip and modify this.

Ok, this next image is looking at the end of the harness with the red clip on top. for what wire is what.

OK, now, here are the 5 relays connected to the 5 wire sockets. . Red wires are signal wires, white is ground, black is bat. + and green is the load output... I made 2 1/2" holes in the side of the box. . signal, ground and load out one side, power out the other.

The wires are all soldered and wrapped. . that Scotchlock is a forgotten ground wire. Top side of image is from the harness, tap into the ground, from the 5 white wire. Clip wires one at a time to the relays. . red wire to upper inbound, green wire to lower outbound. as well as the 4 wire plug. . Notice the clipped 4 wire on the top part.

Loose layout . . power wires not hooked up yet. .

Finished and wrapped. . I used weatherstrip adhesive to seal off the side holes. So just connect the harness to the truck and string the power wire to the front battery area.

The side of the power Module has the connection for the battery. Connected it to the Circuit Breaker.
