I'm getting the dreaded smell in the cab at idle and pretty sure it's good old 15w40 and blowby - not raw fuel. Anyway, does extending the vent correct the smell? Any tips on hose size, routing and clamps? Thanks.
Something 3/4" ID that is soft will slip on. I read it was enough to run it down to the bottom of the oil pan and that is what I did since I had a short chunck of hose laying around. I secured it with a hose clamp. Did that a week ago and havent noticed any odor in the cab since. I might extend it further back under the bed if need be.
Yea I was getting the smell on mine sometimes too. I extended the hose back under the transfer case. Still get a smell sometimes but nothing I can't live with. They still have not got it right yet. It's better than what it used to be but I believe they can do better.
Boy howdy I just changed my oil and can we say SaTIINNKYYYYY!!! I need to extend the hose, but someday BOMBing/removing the cheesy plastic vent cover will be in the works.
I was shocked to see how far the tube goes while still producing the oder in the cab. Does it need to be routed all the way to the rear bumper??? My 94 was shorter and only produced a mild smell the 1st day or 2 after an oil change and it's doubtful that the 03 has much more blow-by than the 94 12v. Either this is especially stinky oil or (more likely) the climate control is pulling some air from under the hood. Since the smell is coming up from that low, I think the solution may be to route it over to the side by the front wheel well - or - to find out why the vent is pulling air from under the hood.
I just added a piece of 3/4" irrigation hose to mine. It hangs down about 3 to 4" below the oil pan. I think it fixed it, I haven't smelled anything for a long time.
