my '98 Neon has just shy of 100k, and i have notice a significant drop in mileage, decreased performance, and the CEL is on, so i hooked it to the diagnostic computer, O2 codes came back. i bought both O2 sensors today from NAPA, i will likely change them this weekend. ive got the haynes manual, but obviously, real world tips are much more useful! thanks!

I'm not too familiar with the Neon but if there's no room to get a wrench in there, you can find a special socket with a piece cut out to fit over the wiring pigtail.

Hopefully the factory put anti-seize on it or it may be tough to get out. If it doesn't want to move, you can try penetrating lube or a torch to heat up the fitting (but I wouldn't try both at the same time).

thank you. i planned on having a small propane torch handy to heat up the metal around the old sensor. i am guessing if the factory did make a mistake and put anti-seize on the originals:-laf it is no longer any good after 12 new york winters. . i have some to put on the new ones, although i highly doubt the car will be around long enough to see another O2 sensor change!
