Tire blow outs

I pull a 3500lb. 2 wheel trailer and wonder how bad it is if I ever have a blow out at high speed, or at high speed on a turn. I am pulling it with a toyota tacoma untill my ram 3500 srw arrives. What is the best tire to use to prevent blow outs. I have 15in. tires. Thank in advance for any help.

Blow out very bad on a single axle trailer.



check tire pressures and also check how hot the tires get after a trip if they are hot (simple non-scientific test you cannot keep your hand on them you are overloaded). I like tires that are rated for at least 5% over what I tow. For good heavy rated trailer tires check at a commercial tire store.

With a 3500 lb trailer, I would use an 'E' rated tire just like is on your dually. Get a tire that is ribbed, not the AT or M/S tires. They run too hot.



The ribbed tires run cool and have stiffer side walls.



One more thing... . a 2 wheel trailer MUST have shock absorbers on it to prevent it from doing the 2 wheel side to side hop/dance routine. You definitely don't want your trailer to start dancing from side to side... very unsettling feeling.



Had it happen once when I was just going to make a "short trip" and didn't bother to hook up the sway bars on my TT. I was going down a cut thru into a ravine in west Texas, when the TT came out of the bottom of the cut thru, a severe breeze was blowing down the ravine and it hit the TT at 90* and started that side-to-side dance.



At the time I was doing about 55 mph... I tried the trailer brakes but that made it worse.



Abandoned the brakes and floored the throttle, shot across the ravine and up the other side. The increased power straightened out the TT and on the steep upgrade, gravity pulled things in line. All was well by the time I reached the top again.



Not fun... .
