After a recent burnout, the truck began to vibrate violently. When the tread separated @ approx 70 mph, it mangled the sheet metal and ripped off the body molding. The tread came up along side the bed and removed some paint. The cross members of the box bed, to the rear of the wheel well are smashed.

I simply couldn't bring myself to take pictures of the body. I have most of it repaired, save for the paint. New tires too. :eek:

You protect it from salt/sun and road idiots and then something like this bites you... ... . #@$%!

It was a GENERAL 145/75/R16. On the truck when I purchased it. I was told these are very good tires. Got all four news ones... . not "General" though.

That sucks, sorry to see that. At least you don't have a dually and have the tire bust up the fender extension- made of unobtainium.

Not my experience. Buy the best you can afford. You normally get what you pay for.

Oh no! :{ Which truck was this, GL, the 90 or the 92? I guess it goes to show ya can't get too attached to yer CTD. Bummer, bro. :(

I've had this happen with tires that have been sitting for a while (a few years). Even though the tires were not flat, they had not moved for a long time. When I put the vehicle back into action, after a little freeway use, the tread flew off. You must admit it is quite an adrenaline rush.

Sorry to hear about the body damage.

Ding, Ding, Ding, we have a winner!!!

I'm suprised you posted the pics of the dirty undercarriage of your truck, Scott. I was not suprised that you didn't post up the body damage. ;)

I had a General come apart and do some body damage on mine last summer. It was a fairly old tire, I suppose, but the only blowout I've ever had with a Load Range E tire.

With over a million miles experience in 16" rubber I can say in my experience Michelin is by far the most superior tire. I have had 2 trucks that came factory equipped with Generals and both trucks through the tread off with lots of life left. I have run Michelins on goseneck trailers till the steel was showing and have never thrown the tread on one.

THIS truck :{

You CAN become quite attatched to your truck... ... just NOT THE PAINT!!! :-{}

The truck sets quite a bit and as for the age?????????????They be on there when I purchased this rig. They needed replaced anyhow. I wouldn't hold a burn-out with good tires.

i had the same thing happen to me one night but i was goin 75-80 and i have 305 tires on mine and it tore the side up really bad.

Did you learn your lesson? You need tires for burnin' and a set for drivin' :rolleyes: Now you know what to do with the rest of the Generals ;)

Glad you are ok, could have been messy on a curve.
