Thanks in advance!! No time to tell the whole story now.

Running bald tires (near wear bar), unfixable flat last night. New tires due Monday.

My choice:

1) Right now running used 4 ply tire on right rear. Max pressure 44 psi, max weight around 2200#. Sags a little. Other tires at 80 psi.

2) Put spare on. Spare is new, therefore has 3/4" greater radius than opposite tire. Will this cause a problem? I will run about 2-300 miles between now and monday, no towing but truck has 1300# vet box in bed, total truck weight around 8400#.

Thanks, Jeff

I would put the spare on, while it is slightly different size it should not cause any problem. Option 1 sounds dangerous with that load.

Do you have limited slip? If so, put the spare on one of the front wheels instead. If not, go ahead an put it on the rear.

J. How many miles did you get from the tires? Are they the OE skins? thanks, Doc

Truck was new June '03. Presently at 73k. Truck has been completely flawless, including the 48RE and the ball joints. This flat tire is as close to a mechanical problem as I've had. (Pretty good after 7 Chevys)

Original tires were Michelins, went 35k to the wear bars. Next set was/is BF Goodrich, now at 38K. I'm in the mountains of Western NC--roads are very crooked, adds up to lots of tire wear. Wish Dodge had the 16" inch rims so we would have more choices.

Thanks for the replys. I do have the limited slip but I guess I'll get up early and put the spare on before I head out tommorrow. Thanks again for the timely help. Jeff

If it were me, I'd put the spare on the front. You run the risk of wearing out the brake shoes on the side gears if your tire diameters are mismatched by a lot and you drive very far.
