Need local diesel mechanic

my 1st ctd!

I have an 06 3500 with Michelin 265 70 17 R tires. The dealer suggest 45 lbs of pressure when not towing. I have an 98 34' Airstream travel trailer, probably 10,000 lbs loaded. I have heard many versions of what pressure I should run towing from Airstream people. I would appreciate some advice fromt his forum on what pressure I should run.

My owners manual says 50 front 40 rear light load or 60 front 70 rear full load. Max pressure is 80 psi. I used a calculator found on the Michelin site and using my unloaded axel weights of my truck came up with 45 front 35 rear. With fuel prices the way they are I never run them that low. For you with trailer I would use the 60f/ 70r.

I keep 45psi. in my rears even when towing. On a cross country trip I go up to 55 or 60. With a properly set-up weight distributing hitch you are only adding one third of the tongue weight to the rear tires, on your trailer that might be 400lbs. or so.

I run 55-60F; 54-50 rear. This keeps the wear even on my tires, yet gives me enough pressure to minimize rolling resistance.

When towing, I will pump them up to 70-80psi, depending on the load. If it's just 2 horses, I'll leave it alone.
