Time to rotate the tires on my '05 3500 DRW and I'm trying to come up with

a game plan that will enable each tire to eventually play in every position and

also put the spare into the game. It bothers me to have the spare sitting on

the bench, never being used! Here is what I've come up with.

Left front to Inner right rear

Inner right rear to Outer right rear

Outer right rear to Spare

Spare to Inner left rear

Inner left rear to Outer left rear

Outer left rear to Right front

Right front to Left front

Repeat every three to four thousand miles.

I would welcome/appreciate opinions.

Check for "direction of rotation"

Some of the Good Year tires have "this side out" on them which means you have to dismount 4 of them to move the outer set on the back to the front. ;) Ken Irwin

Ready for this?

I did mine this way;;;;;;;;;;;;;

Spare to R OB

R OB to R IB

R IB to RF

RF to L OB

L OB to L IB

L IB to LF

LF to spare

I didn't like the Owners Manual recommendation

Hey Blu-meanie - Thanks. I like ur way better. Fewer axles off the ground at the

same time. I agree about not liking the Owner's Manual recommendation. It bugs

me to have a new tire, (the spare), sitting unused under the truck, dry-rotting.

I never on any vehicle use my spare. They don't seem to rot stuck up UNDER a vehicle. I had them 10 years plus this way. My quirk. I only check air in a spare

tires

how about this

r f to r i

l f to l i

5000 miles later

r f to l o

l f to r o

this way all your tires are rolling in the same dir.

save the spare and buy 5 tires insted of 6 :D

just a thought

Hey Underwood Tire. Quick question. Is there an advantage to having the tires

rolling in the same direction? I note that they don't do it that way in the rotation

pattern in the Owner's Manual.

YOOPERVIC,

The steel cords "set" in a particular way depending upon direction rotated, therefore it was thought that to rotate in opposite direction would cause belts to loosen up promoting separation or tire failure.

I have to agree with DPKetchum.

Just replaced 6 on my truck, got prices from $1,350 to $1,500.

When you go to replace 7, that will increase the price range to $1,575 to $1,700  , but if you can pay that without blinking..... GO FOR IT !

Yep, I rotate the same way. I haven't need a spare tire in over 20 years(knock on wood) yet. When I buy six tires, I blink!

My Laramie came with outline white letters on the tires and I rotate as shown in the Owner's Manual at every 5K mile oil change. The diagram in the Manual shows how to rotate keeping the white letters to the outside. It takes about 30-45 minutes using my air tools and a torque wrench for the final tighten.

It would seem that the best of both worlds would be to include the spare in

the rotation scheme the first time around and then when it comes time to replace the tires, only replace six of them and keep the best of the used ones for a spare. That way, by including the spare in the rotation, you would get over 15% more total use and it would not be sitting under your truck, wasting away. On previous trucks, mine definitely started to show signs of ozone after a few years.

Some of my customers (very few)choose to do so. Thats fine. I just never have. Number flat on a car(before temps)was the spare! I always choice to keep the new one in the trunk or under the truck.

When I had a 2500, I rotated every 5k. Duels keep you really busy especially if you rotate 7 tires so I am going for around the recommended 7-7. 5K.

When the tires are due to be replaced, I'll replace 6 and have a "used" spare.

I can't believe you guys let that 'steel cords "set" in a particular way' comment go by all these months. :-laf

If thats a Goodyear up under there DP, I suggest you go look closely at it. Mine has not been out of its holder either but man is it dry rotting like no tomorrow !!! Oh, just noticed this past weekend I'm getting those damn rips again on my fronts, might be getting some 19. 5's sooner then expected !! #@$%! Oh, and another thing before one of you guys says its the desert heat check this out... . my 89 4 Runner that sis bought new back in '89 , that I've been beating on the last 4 years, has the original Bridgestone still up underneath and it looks fine, go figure !!!
