I just got my wheel's redone and now I need new rubber. I was running 33" tires and would like to stick with an equivalent size. I'm torn between Nitto terra grappler's and Pro Comp XAT. My wheel's are 17" and I would like a size that's doesn't have that ballooned look. I can't really get away with the low profile tire look with 17"(wish I had 20"wheel's) but which size should I go with. I've seen 305/70/17 and 305/65/17. Does anyone have pics. of this possible look I'm going for. Maybe some good shot's of 33's on 17" wheel's will help me choose a size! Thank's

285/70/17 are about 33" and won't balloon on an 8" rim. 285/75/17 are about 34" but a similar width. I have Toyo open Country M/T on my truck now and love them for longevity and traction. I believe Toyo makes these in their A/T style (click on the link for sizes and specs for details)

Well, the 35x12. 50 Toyo Open Country M/T's on my '07 3500 are probably larger and more aggressive than what you are looking for, but here are three shots for you to take a look at. They are mounted on factory 17x8 forged aluminum wheels that originally came off of my '07 Power Wagon.

if you go by the manufacturer's specs, a 35-12. 50 requires a minimum 8. 5" wheel with a suggested 10" wheel. not that it won't work, but it DOES ballon the tire. I had BFG 37-12. 50-17 mudders on 8" Weld wheels and got 45k miles with about 10k miles towing, but the sway is noticeable and you have to mess with the tire pressure fairly often to keep optimum tire contact.

I have had good luck with my Cooper STT's (in sig). I put about 45K on them with proper rotation. I love the tire and how they look. Just my 2 cents.

I am fully aware of the specs you mention, however, with my Toyo's being 10 ply load range E tires, I have noted no excessive ballooning or sway using 8" rims even with a fully loaded slide-in camper on board.
