Can I put 305/70/16'sBFG mud t/a's(yes the do make them)

on my 01. 5 2500 4x4 qc lwb/lb, w/ camper an towing package with out lifting it? if not what is max tire size for this combo?

Thanks for the help. Proram

01. 5 2500, lwb,4x4 slt qc 4wdb, 4. 10's

Yes, I've seen the new KM Mud-Terrain T/As in that size. And yes again, they should fit your 16x8 factory alloy wheels correctly and not rub anywhere. That is, unless you have Mopar (only) nerf bar/steps installed (the very front of the bar protrudes into the wheelwell area).

I just wish someone took a picture of what they look like mounted :(

I'm debating this setup when my 295's burn up ;)

So if anyone has these tires mounted, Could you please post pics

Q

Mactruck, I'm still trying to decide whether to go with a replacement set of 285 BFG All-Terrain KOs or up the ante a half size to the 295s. I currently have a brand new (just pre) KO spare mounted on a fifth M/T Alcoa Challenger wheel (both have never hit the road). On one hand another set of 285s would work really well however, I have an idea that, in conjunction with a feature of the DTT Smart Controller (new version), I might just be better served with the 295s. Another way to rationalize this theory would be that since the 295s are only . 600" larger in diameter than my new 285 spare... and given that a tire is more likely to go flat (due to a road hazard) when it is sufficiently worn, a worn 295 should be closer in diameter to a new 285 than a worn 285 is to a new 285.

Any opinions on this?

BTW, I'm only interested in BFG radial All-Terrain tires... sorry, I cut my teeth on BFG radial Mud-Terrains.

:D <-- see?

Hey, better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick, right Gene?

Also Mactruck, I believe the 295 All-Terrains are slightly taller than the 305/70R16s... but narrower.

I would up your ante to 295's. They give the truck a better stance and fill the wheel wells a little better. I have liked my 295's and the only reason I was thinking about going to a 305 is the slightly smaller diamater might help my ratio a little bit (3. 54:( ) The one problem with the 305's is that they are Mud terrains. The All Terrains fit my profile better.

However as the Bombing process has progressed I have found that I don't really notice the lag of the larger tires. My DDII's just came in from Piers and Massdiesels going to be putting in my DTT Mods next month so I'll be putting out about 350 Horses and I DEFINITELY won't notice it then :-laf

You are probably correct that a worn 295 is about the same size as a new 285. If you are looking to keep the 285 spare I would run the 295 tires. I myself am looking for an old 295 to put on a 01 alloy rim so I can run a true full size spare. It's posted in the classifieds and have had no luck. So if you know anyone that has one let me know ;)

Good luck!

Kevin M.

Thanks for the info. Kevin. :)

I also have the 3. 54 axle ratio... that's why I want to be pretty careful about my decision.

Hey Kevin stick with the 295's. I personally don't like how the 305s look on out trucks. They are disproportionally (SP?) wide for there height and fill up the wheel well even less than the 285s do. I have seen them look very good on tahoes and expeditions but with the shape of our wheel wells they look weird. I just made the switch to a comp and have a set of dd2's on the shelf. I am showing great restraint in not installing them yet:D . Got to do the clutch first. BTW a would vote for a 285/80 16 if someone has to power to get them made. And how about some other tire models in the 295, not that I need them but an MT would be nice as an option.

I had 305/70R16 Cooper Discovers on my truck for a while. They did rub just a little while making sharp turns. I really liked the size, however only a few tire companys make that size. I could not justify paying $50 more per tire for BFG's so I went to 285/75R16 Bridgestone this time. We'll see how they last. The dealer gave me a personal warranty that if I rotate the tires every 5,000 miles, he would warranty the tread life for 50,000 mile full replacement not pro-rated!

He doesn't know what 427 HP can do to a set of tires! :D
