I want to upgrade my street tires to some larger offroad ones.

First question is, what is the largest tire size that will fit inside the wheel wells without creating an interference (rubbing) with the well on a non lifted setup...

Next question is, with the 3:54 rear end and a 1800 lb Lance camper how much larger can I get away with... ... (I sure wish I had the 4:10 but I don't... and I doubt it's economically feasible to go that route... or is it?)

Last question is, what's the general consensus for the most recommended offroad tires... BFG's ?

ROdiorne, I have 33x12. 50x16. 5s on my 2500 4x4 with 4:10s and they don't rub but with the 3:55s they might turn it into a slug on take off. I've used them to haul many heavy loads and although they are only D rated tires they hold the wait really well. I put about 35,000miles on this last set and have another set in the pole barn just waiting for the first snow fall. They do great on and off road and will really through some I TRIED TO BY-PASS THE CUSSING FILTER when they need to. :D

You can get a much bigger tire under these trucks than you are going to want to drive with you gearing. I am running 295/75-16 bfg at ko an like them but with my 4. 10s.

Sizes that fit-

255/85-16

285/75-16

295/75-16

305/70-16 or 33/12. 50-16

315/75-16 or 35/12. 50-16 (same size- people say they work but I have no personal experience)

The shortest but also wides size there is the 33/12. 50-16. I have run 255/85-16 and 295/75-16. Depending upon want you are planning on doing offroad one thing to keep in mind is that these trucks do not float. They are just to heavy with any load and with a lance camper you will be onthe bottom of anything you encounter. That being said you might want to stick to a taller narrower tire for traction.

When i bought my 01 it had 3. 55's i didnot make it home from the dealer with the 265's off to my tire guy for some 295/75/16 bfg ta ko's. the power loss was minimal. only after my lift kit and the 315's did the power loss hurt and the 4. 10 were installed ($1256) and everything is puuuurfect. i recommend 295's and get a used 295 (30 percent left or less will still fit under the back for a spare) or 5 new 285's and rotate all 5. BFG AT ko's are about the best all around tire for street and dirt that you can buy. alittle pricy unless you are in tight with your tire guy.

Best regards

I have 315/75R16's, they rubbed slightly in the front and put a 2" leveling kit on and they are perfect. I think you have LesSchwab dealers in CA. I got the new XLT (?) tires on sale for $156 each. The BFG mud was over $200 each. I also have the 3:55 gears and have no problem with power. I just turn my PE Comp up when I need the power. It spins the tires in the rain at 60 mph on the highway.  Scared the crap out of me the first time it happened. Oh ya the LesScwab tires hum just a little on the highway compared to the BFG's. Les also has free flat repair, tire rotate and free balancing. They also have some type of road hazard but I haven't read it yet. Hope this helps.
