I have a 01 3500 with 22000 miles and the rear tires are worn much worse than the front tires. I know that original equipment tires may not have the greatest life and that I should be rotating them but these tires won't go another 5,000. The truck has a limited slip diff could this be part of the trouble? Any advice or suggestions would be helpful! TIA

I think you see the problem. Rotate. I normaly get 60-70 K on a set of tires but I keep up with the rotation and inflation. I tow a fiver and work trailer, 14K, and still get that milage. The reason the dually dosen't wear the same is the tires don't ride flat on the road. That is the reason for the procedure with the rotation. when you buy new tires, rotate and watch the tire pressure. They will last.

26K on my originals....

And probably only good for 5K more. I rotate regularly so thats why they lasted this long.

Not to confuse you but I've never gotten that kind of mileage out of any of my work trucks. All the extra weight and my driving style don't make for long tire wear.

I only have put Cooper's on my truck. I put Coopers on the wife's 98 also. Now I don't know if that is any difference but those are the numbers I get. When I buy new ones I will have about 1/8 tread left. I may run them to close but that's where I change um.

Now the OEM Wranglers were what you said. A real crap tire.

I think it depends on what you use3 your truck for. Mines a daily driver and the rears don't wear much at all. I run them at 40psi. My fronts wear on the outside edge (I think I must have to much toe-in). I bought this truck used and did not want to buy 6 new tires. So I am doing it 2 at a time. Will be buying 2 new ones at next rotation time. Hope to get it to the point that they are all wearing evenly and 2 wearout at a time. I have the Michelins LTX M/S. Seem to be good wearing tires. At 55K miles I will have 2 new tires, 2 tires with 15K miles on them and 2 tires with 55K on them. I hope my plan works, the wife does not notice when I buy 2 tires but 6 new tires would get her attention :D

Tom....

That wasn't to say your mileage wasn't accurate. It was a statement about mine. Even on non duallies I have never had any luck with tires lasting. I drive pretty aggresive into turns and the fronts pay the price. Regularly rotating them help keep fresh rubber on the fronts for me. That and my truck weighs 11K lbs as a daily driver. I'm one of the wierd ones that considers 30K miles on a set of tires as doing well!!

Rotate

Just turned 15k on my 2002 Dually with 4. 10 and LSD- rotated at second oil change will rotate on fourth- no appreciable wear but I have not towed so this may be a factor- I think the Michelins will give good service- that mileage has been put on since late December 01 when I took delivery

always buy michilins and you will be alot more happy with the tire everytime i try to save money and go with another brand i get really dissappointed time and time again got some cheap trailer tires and they suck, other brands tend to bounce more have tread seperations, wear less and just overall aren't near as good a tire
