2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Tire wear???

On my 97 3500 I wear the outside right edge of the front right more that others. There is a pretty big difference. I have changed the ball joints and drag link. The steering wheel is pretty straight with just a little left turn. I am thinking that most of my wear is caused by road crown. Any alignment people with thoughts on this. I run on the freeway most of the time. Also my 4 link bars on the front my have weak rubber in them.

I have this same problem. After taking it to 3 different alignment shops, nothing seems to help.



One guy at a Discount Tire store told me it was due to the fact that left hand turns are usually longer than right handers (as in turning left at an intersection).



Anyway, 2 tire rotations ago, I had them flip the tires so that the outer edges are now the inners, so it can all catch up. Seems to be helping. It added 6 months to the life of the tires so far and I still have 7/32's of tread in the middle and the sides are evening up nicely.

Maybe the tires are under-inflated.....

70 psi. Not a inflation thing. Only 1 of 4 side on the front wear.

Check Track Bar

When this happened to my truck, it was an indication of the track bar going south. Replacing it stopped the excessive wear. At least beyond the odd wear often found on the front outsides of a live axle 4x4.

Trac bar is tight. I replaced it awhile ago. It sure did help handling.

I will tell you my experience. As I actually posted regarding the same thing a while back, actually when I still had a 96. I was getting about 1/2 the mileage out of the front right tire as the rest, which was about 15k miles on a tire. I was buying an additional tire to replace that specific tire at 15k and that tire would wear out about the same time as the tire I bought as a set.



Well I finally switched to cooper tires and that took me to a different tire and alignment shop that I had not been to before. Their alignment guy recommended and I did replace the tie rod completely. After that no more strange wear.



Don't know if that helps but I also got the longer turns and people turn harder to that way stuff. No other vehicle of mine has had this problem.

Very interesting. Did you replace it with a MoPar tie rod, or someone else's? Was your old one worn?

I believe it was a Moog part don't exactly remember. Came from NAPA. Yes it was worn, it had 130K miles on it.
